The Poodle is a highly popular dog, known for their comical energy and thick, nonshedding coat. Ranking as one of the world's most intelligent breeds, Poodles are a great choice for both new and seasoned dog owners.
Within the Canadian Kennel Club, all poodles are considered one breed however there are 3 varieties (sizes) of poodle; Toy, Miniature, & Standard. Be cautious of marketing terms such as Teacup, Moyen or King as these are NOT sizes of poodles, but rather terms used by unethical breeders to market their puppies.
Poodles come in a vast variety of different colours, however MERLE is not one of them. Merle is not a historically occurring color in the poodle breed. Acceptable colors of poodles are: Solid (Black, Brown, Cafe au late, red, Apricot, cream, white, silver, blue and any varying shade of a solid color for the conformation ring. Parti colored poodles are registerable for dog sports but not allowed in the conformation ring.
Poodles can be trimmed to suit any fashion-- whether you prefer the traditional Poodle look, a teddy-bear trim, or a lower-maintenance cut. Aside from the conformation (show) ring, there are no rules to how you can trim your poodle. If you can dream it, you can do it!
