Looking for a Poodle?
Please note: The breeders who have puppies and dogs listed here are just a starting point in the search for your new family member. The Poodle Club of Alberta encourages you to do your own research into any potential breeder, their health testing, and breeding practices.
Be sure to ask all the right questions.
Do you health test?
Ethical and responsible breeders do all appropriate health testing for their variety.
Do you breed to the Canadian Kennel Club breed standard?
-Using terms like Teacup, Moyen or King are not sizes of poodles, they are marketing terms to make a sale.
-breeding colors not recognised by the CKC such as merle
Do you show and/or trial your dogs in performance events?
- buying from a breeder who doesn't show their dogs helps to guarantee that they are trying to better the breed and not just produce puppies for sale.
- saying that you don't need a puppy from a breeder who shows is like saying you don't need to buy a house from a builder who builds to code.... not all breeders are built the same.
Do you have a contract?
- breeders that have health guarantees and expectations of the dog to be returned to them if for any reason you can't keep the dog and stand behind their dogs for life. A breeder should be more than just a transaction.
